In 1974, Betty and Harold Blanton purchased Trammell Candy Company Inc.,located in Atlanta, GA from Mr. Lamar Trammell. The family started the candy business that dates back to 1884. The first candy making business was started by George Garrow, Lamar Trammell’s Great grandfather's father- in- law called Garrow’s Candy Kitchen. The business operated successfully in Atlanta, GA just two blocks from the state capital. Lamar Trammell’s father acquired the business which stayed viable through WW2. In 1962, the son, Lamar Trammell formed his own company Trammell Candy Co. Inc. This is our corporate name but have been doing business as Blanton’s Candies for the past 50 years.
In 1974 we moved the business from Atlanta, GA to Anniston, AL where we purchased the equipment of a chocolate company that had gone out of business. After 17 years we moved the business to Sweetwater, TN. This location was in proximity to Gatlinburg TN where a fair percentage of our candy is currently being sold. Mr. Lamar Trammell (Master candy maker) worked with us and retired at the age of 62. Mr Trammell passed away at the age of 100 in Atlanta, GA. He was a good friend with a lot of patience especially when he was trying to teach me how to make candy.
This year (2024) we celebrate 50 years and have enjoyed every minute of our journey.
